Kris Srikkanth Slams Rajasthan Royals After IPL 2026 Loss to DC

Kris Srikkanth has hit out at the Rajasthan Royals management and captaincy after their pivotal IPL 2026 defeat against the Delhi Capitals, accusing the franchise of baffling decisions and showing signs of internal discord.

Jadeja Dropping Sparks Outrage

The former India captain was especially incensed by the decision to drop experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in favor of untested batter Ravi Singh. With Rajasthan Royals’ playoff hopes hanging by a thread, Srikkanth labeled the omission as not just questionable, but irresponsible.

“This match was the easiest chance for them against DC. Jadeja was a compulsory must for this match. How can you not play him in the 11? It was an absurd move. I am convinced there is something wrong with the team.”

Srikkanth pointed to Jadeja’s proven match-winning ability, particularly in high-pressure chases and death situations, and questioned whether Ravi Singh could even remotely fill that void.

Impact Player Misuse Adds Fuel to Fire

The Impact Player rule also came under fire. Rajasthan replaced Shubham Dubey with Dasun Shanaka during their innings — a move that failed to yield results. Shanaka scored 10 off 8 balls and later conceded 29 runs in three overs, despite taking the wicket of KL Rahul.

Srikkanth argued that the decision made little tactical sense, especially with Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer already handling key death overs.

“You are already a bowler short without Jadeja, and you bring in Shanaka just for the death overs. Archer himself could have done what Shanaka did. Shanaka did nothing with the bat or ball. He just got one fluke wicket of KL Rahul.”

Captaincy Under Scrutiny

Rajasthan skipper Riyan Parag also faced criticism for his captaincy choices. With Delhi needing 35 off 18 balls and left-handers Axar Patel and David Miller at the crease, Parag handed the ball to off-spinner Donovan Ferreira. The move backfired as Ferreira leaked 16 runs, including two sixes.

Srikkanth questioned the logic behind the move and called out Parag’s reaction after the over — throwing his cap in frustration.

“He’s bowling that over because of two left-handers. Is he even an actual off-spinner? Shanaka should have bowled instead. After he gave 16 runs, Parag is throwing his cap as if it’s someone else’s fault. You captained foolishly.”

From Strong Start to Playoff Peril

Rajasthan began IPL 2026 with four straight wins, raising hopes of a deep tournament run. But their form has nosedived, with six losses in their last eight matches — including three consecutive defeats.

Despite Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s explosive 46 off 21 and fifties from Parag and Dhruv Jurel, the Royals crumbled from 161/2 to 193/8 after Mitchell Starc’s fiery 15th over, in which he claimed three wickets in four balls.

Delhi’s chase was anchored by KL Rahul and Abhishek Porel, who added 105 for the first wicket. Despite a middle-order stumble, cameos from Ashutosh Sharma sealed the win.

Make-or-Break Phase Ahead

Rajasthan now face must-win games against Lucknow Super Giants on May 19 and Mumbai Indians on May 24. Even a full turnaround may not be enough — they’ll need other results to align in their favor to secure a playoff spot.

With performances and decisions under the microscope, Srikkanth believes the team has lost its mental edge.

“It looked like they played to lose. The will to win seems to be missing within the team.”

Whether Rajasthan can rediscover their early-season spark remains to be seen — but time, and tolerance, are running out.
