On paper, Markram’s captaincy stats surpass Pant’s current IPL numbers. His ability to anchor the batting order while leading could provide LSG with much-needed stability.
Mitchell Marsh: The Aggressive Strategist

Marsh’s leadership style promotes fearless cricket, something LSG lacked during their 2026 campaign. With 21 wins while fielding first, he has a proven record of managing bowling attacks and high-pressure chases. His international experience and familiarity with overseas-heavy squads make him an ideal fit for LSG’s roster.
Statistically, Marsh boasts one of the best win-loss ratios among the candidates. If LSG aim for a bolder, more dynamic approach, Marsh could be their catalyst for change.
Nicholas Pooran: The Franchise Veteran
Nicholas Pooran offers continuity and deep familiarity with the LSG setup. Having led teams in CPL, ILT20, MLC, SA20, and the West Indies national side, he has captained in 84 T20 matches (43 wins, 39 losses, one tie, one no-result). His leadership with MI Emirates and MI New York highlights his ability to manage star-studded franchises under pressure.
Pooran averages 69 in qualifying finals and 66.5 in elimination finals, proving his mettle in knockout scenarios. Unlike external appointments, he already shares strong chemistry with LSG players, which could ensure a smoother transition.
While not as dominant statistically as Markram or Marsh, Pooran’s adaptability and franchise-specific experience make him a compelling option.
Should LSG Replace Rishabh Pant?
