“Tim hasn’t made himself available for ODI cricket as yet in amongst everything that he’s doing, but we are open-minded that potentially that is a conversation down the track,” McDonald explained. Despite this, the coaching staff remains hopeful that as the tournament in South Africa and Zimbabwe approaches, the prospect of playing in a World Cup might entice David to re-evaluate his availability.
The Australian ODI unit is currently in a state of flux. The retirements of legends like Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell have left significant voids in the middle order. While the opening partnership of Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head remains settled, the competition for the remaining slots is fierce. Players such as Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey, and Matt Renshaw are all vying for positions, but the lack of an established finisher remains the most glaring concern for the selectors.
