Strategic Squad Changes for India

As the Indian cricket team prepares for a bustling summer of international fixtures, the BCCI has announced a key roster adjustment. The board has confirmed that Prasidh replaces Siraj for Ireland and England T20Is, a decision made primarily to prioritize the long-term physical health of the premier fast bowler.

Workload Management as a Priority

The decision to withdraw Mohammed Siraj from the upcoming T20I series was not taken lightly. According to an official release from the BCCI, the move is a precautionary measure. The board stated: “Following discussions between the BCCI Medical Team and the Team Management, Siraj has been advised a period of rest as part of his workload management programme. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure adequate recovery ahead of a long international season.”

This proactive approach highlights the emphasis the Indian management is placing on player rotation to prevent burnout. With a dense calendar awaiting the squad—including tours of Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand—maintaining the fitness of core bowlers is paramount.

Prasidh Krishna Stepping In

Prasidh Krishna, who shared the dressing room with Siraj at the Gujarat Titans (GT) during the 2026 IPL season, will step into the void. Prasidh, who featured in 12 games during the Titans’ campaign to the final, brings experience and familiarity to the setup. Having already represented India in five T20Is, taking eight wickets in the process, the selectors are confident that he can add value to the bowling attack.

His last appearance in the shortest format for the national side dates back to November 2023 against Australia. Since then, he has continued to hone his craft, and his inclusion is a testament to the depth currently available in the Indian pace battery.

The Upcoming Schedule

The Indian team faces a rigorous stretch of cricket. Following the conclusion of the Test win against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh, the focus shifts immediately to the white-ball format. The tour begins with two T20Is against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28. This will be followed immediately by a high-stakes five-match T20I series against England, running from July 1 to July 11.

Furthermore, Prasidh’s involvement does not end there. He is also slated to participate in the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan starting on June 13, a series for which Siraj was excluded to ensure he received his required break.

Full Squad for Ireland and England T20Is

The updated squad reflects a balance of experienced leadership and emerging talent, aimed at testing the depth of the bench under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer:

  • Captain: Shreyas Iyer
  • Vice-Captain: Tilak Varma
  • Wicket-keepers: Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan
  • Batters/All-rounders: Abhishek Sharma, Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar
  • Bowlers: Varun Chakravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

As the team heads to Ireland and England, all eyes will be on how the management utilizes the squad’s rotation policy. For Prasidh, this is a significant opportunity to cement his place in the T20 setup as the team looks to build momentum for future ICC tournaments.
