Vaibhav Sooryavanshi on Verge of Breaking Chris Gayle’s 14-Year Record
Rajasthan Royals (RR) batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is on the verge of breaking Chris Gayle’s 14-year record of most sixes in a single IPL season. The southpaw scored 93 off just 38 balls with ten sixes and seven boundaries to his name, helping his side win the game against Lucknow Super Giants by seven wickets.
Sooryavanshi’s Incredible Form
Vaibhav has hit 53 sixes in the 19th edition and just needs seven more to go past Chris Gayle’s record of 59 sixes hit for Royal Challengers Bengaluru during the 2012 season. Interestingly, the batter would have been just a year old when the former West Indian starlet set this massive record.
India’s former all-rounder Irfan Pathan has backed the youngster to go past the 14-year-old record set by Gayle after the RR vs LSG game on Tuesday. In his chat with JioStar, Pathan said, “He (Vaibhav) is going after Gayle’s record of 59 sixes and already has hit 53 this season. The youngster is creating the same fear that we had when bowling to Chris, and that record (of most sixes in a single season of IPL) is facing a massive threat.”
Royals End Their Winless Streak in Jaipur
Lucknow batted first and posted a massive total of 220 on the board. The star with the bat for the visiting side was Mitchell Marsh, who scored 96 off 57 balls. Josh Inglis batted aggressively to score 29-ball 60 runs as the pair added 109 for the opening wicket in just 50 balls.
In reply, the hosts got off to a great start with Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal adding 75 runs for the first wicket in 39 balls. Jaiswal, leading the side, scored 43 runs from 23 balls with eight boundaries and a six. Dhruv Jurel stayed not out on 53, which came off 38 balls, to see his side through to their first win in Jaipur.
Sooryavanshi Named Player of the Match
The 15-year-old RR opener was named the player of the match for his match-winning knock of 93. Speaking at the end of the game, the Bihar-based batter said, “The wicket was looking very good when I was sitting out during the first innings. Didn’t want to rush my innings right from the start and wanted to take some time.” Young batter also added, “I wanted to build the innings because it will also help the other batters. I can hit fours and sixes anytime during the chase, so wanted to bat well and take the game deep.”
