A New Chapter for the Bangladesh Cricket Board

Following the controversies that marred the previous election cycle—a process from which Tamim Iqbal had famously withdrawn—the focus has now shifted toward ensuring a fair and transparent path forward. Separation of Power and Electoral Integrity

Addressing the media in Mirpur, Tamim Iqbal emphasized that the current board has completely distanced itself from the electoral mechanics. The primary goal is to ensure that no individual within the BCB can exert undue pressure or influence over the results. According to Tamim, the election commission holds absolute jurisdiction over the proceedings.

“I have completely removed myself from the process,” Tamim stated. “Everything is under the election commission now. I am not signing any letters or returning councillorship papers.” He highlighted that the administrative rigors are strictly being observed, noting that out of 192 expected councillors, 186 submissions have been processed, with the remaining late filings left entirely to the discretion of the commission.

Neutrality at the Helm

One of the most persistent concerns in previous elections was the potential for lobbying by existing board members. Tamim has moved to silence these concerns by clarifying that the board’s top brass—including the president, directors, and the CEO—have no role to play in the upcoming election. This systemic separation is designed to foster an environment where fairness is the standard rather than an exception.

“There will be no role for board directors, the president, or the CEO in this election,” he affirmed. “Under my leadership, we are trying to ensure maximum fairness. If you investigate yourselves, you will not find any lobbying or requests coming from the cricket board.”

The Strategy: An Open Field

When questioned about the potential for panel-based politics, which has historically dominated the BCB landscape, Tamim clarified that there are currently no plans to form a structured panel. Instead, he envisions an open, competitive environment. The goal is to facilitate an event where representatives from all 76 clubs can converge, allowing candidates to present their visions directly to the stakeholders.

This approach moves away from the traditional, often opaque, methods of consolidating power and toward a more democratic, candidate-led outreach program. By allowing candidates to campaign according to their own strategies, the committee hopes to empower the clubs and individual voters to make informed decisions for the future of the sport.

Tamim’s Personal Vision

As a candidate contesting from the club category, Tamim recognizes that he faces the same hurdles as any other participant. While he acknowledges that his history in the game might offer some name recognition, he insists that his path to victory lies in his ability to communicate his vision for the future of Bangladesh cricket.

“You have to explain what you want to do and share your vision with them,” he noted. “I believe many of them already understand the direction I want to work in. That gives me a small advantage, I won’t deny that. But that advantage alone won’t help in the voting. I still need to meet them, talk to them, and explain how I see the future of Bangladesh cricket.”
