Kartik Tyagi Rises to Fifth on IPL 2026 Purple Cap Table

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI), with eight IPL titles between them, haven’t really had standout run-scorers or wicket-takers in IPL 2026. However, KKR are starting to find a couple of them, and one of them made a splash on the Purple Cap table after KKR’s sixth win of the season.

Purple Cap Leaderboard

There’s a new No. 5 on the Purple Cap table, and it’s KKR’s Kartik Tyagi. He had been a quiet performer for KKR early on in the season, when they were winning nothing, and he has been a star performer of late, as they have gone six wins in their last seven games to stay in the hunt for a playoffs spot.

On Wednesday, Tyagi took 2 for 37, the big wicket of Tilak Varma and Deepak Chahar off the last ball of the MI innings taking his season tally to 18.

The four men leading the table remain the leaders, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the top with 24 wickets, followed by Kagiso Rabada of Gujarat Titans (GT) with 21, Anshul Kamboj of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with 20, and Jofra Archer of Rajasthan Royals (RR) with 18. Archer has the same number of wickets as Tyagi, but with a better economy rate: 9.14 to 9.42.

Sunil Narine, meanwhile, returned magical figures of 1 for 13 against MI. He is quite a way below the top wicket-takers, with 14 to his name, but no bowler has been more economical this season than Narine. After 12 bowling innings, he is going at 6.40.

Orange Cap Leaderboard

Nothing of note in the run-getters’ table after Wednesday, with KKR’s top-scorer of the season Angkrish Raghuvanshi unable to bat after suffering concussion while fielding and Ryan Rickelton, MI’s top-scorer, getting just 6.

The top of the leaderboard reads: 1. RR’s Vaibhav Sooryavanshi with 579 runs; 2. Mitchell Marsh of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with 563 runs; 3. Heinrich Klaasen of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with 555 runs; 4 and 5. GT openers B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill with 554 and 552 runs respectively.
